"Do Babies Matter?" Plulgging the leaky pipeline: keep women in engineering

Dean Mason is a renowned expert in the field of child and family matters. Recently she has addressed the issue of family and the academic profession through published articles entitled “Do Babies Matter?” Having a family is considered to be one of the major reasons the PhD women turn away from an academic career. Through her lecture Dean Mason will address the truths, myths and challenges faced by women aspiring to academic positions in the current system. She will also discuss the changing academic climate and the effect of newly implemented family friendly policies in the UC system. This is also an opportunity to celebrate Dean Mason’s contributions to UC Berkeley as she completes her tenure as Dean of the Graduate Division.
