Bell Labs Graduate Research Fellowship Program
The Bell Labs Graduate Research Fellowship Program is designed to increase the number of minorities and women in the fields of science, math, engineering and technology. A Bell Labs Graduate Research Fellowship is a wonderful opportunity to help outstanding minorities and women enhance their knowledge and to pursue a PH.D. degree in science and engineering.
Fellowships are awarded to women and members of a minority group currently underrepresented in the sciences who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents or non-residents here on an F1 student visa. The program is primarily directed at graduating college seniors, but applications from first-year graduate students also will be considered.
Candidates are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement in their fields of specialization, and other evidence of their ability and potential as research scientists. Students must be pursuing full-time doctorial studies in one of the following disciplines:
A distinctive feature of the program is the opportunity for fellowship participants to gain firsthand research and development experience, through on-site activities at Lucent Technologies Bell Labs, under the guidance of research scientists and engineers. Each participant is expected to spend the first summer working with their mentor at Bell Labs on a research project in their area of interest. Fellowship participants also are encouraged to continue their association with their mentors during the following academic year and throughout their graduate studies.
During periods of internship at Bell Labs, participants receive salaries commensurate with their level of experience and training.
The Fellowship provides full tuition in any appropriate, accredited, U.S. institution of higher education offering advanced degrees in science, mathematics, or engineering. An annual stipend of $25,000 to be used for living expenses, books and travel to conferences is available. Fellowship recipients may accept other full fellowship support, however the Bell Labs Fellowship must be taken first.
Fellowships will be renewed on a yearly basis for up to four years of graduate study, subject to the participant's satisfactory progress toward the doctoral degree.
The application deadline is January 12, 2007 for the scholastic school year beginning Fall 2007. To apply, please visit our Web site: http://www.lucent.com/social/blgrfp
