This LOST+FOUND directory was installed here by the sys adnmins after 
recovering from the crash of the mamba.cs file server.  The names and
home directory locations of these files and directories were lost in
the crash, so the recovery process renamed them starting with a '#'.

You may be able to identify a specific file that you need with commands
such as (using the file named #123456 for example):

  more #123456					
  grep 'some text I remember typing' #123456
  grep 'some text I remember typing' *

The * means "all the files" in the directory.
