UNIX and Windows "named" accounts:
- "named" accounts can be used for many EECS class assignments. They are active for EE and CS majors until they graduate. Non-majors in many classes are also eligible; their accounts expire at the end of the semester.
- A UNIX account and a Windows account will be created using the same login name. The initial password for both will be on the account form. The UNIX account includes an email address and a personal WEB site.
- Get one by logging in as
'newacct' (passwd: 'newacct') in 199 Cory, 273 Soda or over the net using 'ssh' to cory.eecs.berkeley.edu. 'newacct' gives you instructions; typically your account form and password are emailed to you the next business day.
- If you do not have a UC Berkeley SID, you should submit an Account Request Form, signed by your instructor, to 378 Cory. Then run 'newacct' after you have been approved.
- Users with pre-existing EECS research accounts must run
'newacct' once to obtain Instructional privileges before they can use
Instructional computers and printers. Please see
http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/connecting.html#grad.

- Some classes only get UNIX "class" accounts; others only get Windows "class" accounts.
- Get the account form from your instructor or TA.
