[1] The World Wide Web is growing at an exponential rate. The actual numbers depend on how sites are defined. For the data graphed above, Matthew Gray defined sites as documents whose urls (or universal resource locators) begin with unique host names. Thus, www.mit.edu/people/mkgray/ and www.mit.edu/madlibs are part of the same site, but web.mit.edu/ is a separate site.
