Announcement

  • 12/2

  • Three things.  These announcements are also posted on our class web page.

    1. Lab 4 grading.
    2. Lab 5 reading materials.
    3. Did you submit every report?

    1. Lab 4 grading.

After considering the whole situation, Prof. Kahn and
I decided that there would not be a wholesale point
deduction like 25% off.  However, I might grade with
a little harsher standard over the parts in your report
that I subjectively determine to be likely a result of
mass collaboration.  (So instead of taking one point
away, I might take two.)  Your original works will not
    be penalized.

I will check the reservation records to decide who
owned the data set, and those would not be penalized.

    2. I made five reference readings this Monday for lab 5.
From the fact that I only made five, you should have
been able to figure out that those readings are meant to
be kept in the lab!  Anyway.  I made another round
    of five copies.

I know that the theory of feedback will not be covered
in class.  I will hold my usual office hour to
help you both the theory and the experimentation.
    W 5-6,
    Th 2-330, 430-6,
    and F 2-3.

(I am perplexed about the turn out of the Thursday
office hour.  It is the most requested, but
    usually there are few people.)

    3. Did you submit every report?

I will post a sheet that displays SIDs and report scores
for lab 1,2,3,4,and 6.  Please check if there is any
    mistake.

Note that the outcome of missing report is very
detrimental.  Basically, if you put in enough effort, and
turn in every lab report, it is very unlikely that
you would ever get a punitive grade (such as B-).
However, if you didn't turn in all the reports,
your final grade will be, oh well.

  • 11/19 You must read the lab 4 tips before doing lab 4.  Check the due date!
  • 10/26 You must read the lab 6 tips before doing lab 6.
  • 10/3 We have fixed Part 4 of lab 2.  So you should do all of lab 2.
  • 10/2 Please read the lab 2 tips.
  • I am going to a conference.  Therefore, I won't hold my office hour during week 6!
  • It is a good practice to turn off the PC before you do the lab.  By turning off the PC I mean cutting off the electric current going into the PC, not just soft-resetting the PC by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del or hard resetting the PC by selecting "reset the PC" from the Start menu.
  • 9/30  For students who have petitioned for extending the due date for lab 1, the petition will be granted only if the prelab is handed in by this Friday 6:00 pm.  If the prelab is indeed handed in, the due date can be extended to 10/9.
  • 9/28 Update of lab tips.
  • 9/14 The tips for lab 1.
  • 9/7  The TA office hour takes effect starting from week 5.  Before that, if you need to talk to me, please schedule an appointment by sending me an e-mail.
  • 9/7  The finalized group pairing -
  • Brandon Brown - Oliver Max

    Alan Chou - Lawrence Tan

  • 9/2  The lab manual shall come out next Tuesday.  Don't go to the copy central until then.
  • 9/2  As long as you are a registered student, your cardkey access to the lab will be automatically activated.
  • 9/2  The most requested TA hour is Thursday afternoon.  So the following is my office hour schedule:
  • W 5 - 6
    Thu 2-3:30, 4:40-6
    F 2-3

I think that at least 95% of people can use at least one of these slots.

  • 9/2  The list of students who turn in their preference form.  Two names on the same line means

  •         that the two are assigned to a group.
If you hadn't submitted the preference form yet, do it now!  Merely register yourself through Telebear is not enough!  If you did sumbit the preference form but can't find your name, please e-mail me.

Unless you express your opinion, by the end of next Monday I will finish the match-making, and everyone shall have a partner.

  • 8/27 If you haven't turn in the preference form, hurry up! The due date is 8/28.
