WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? WHAT WAS YOUR PATH TO CAL? I grew up in Lakewood, CA. My history teacher always mentioned it was the first Levittown of the west coast, which was probably why it was super boring and all the houses looked the same. I graduated from Los Alamitos High School. In regards to my path to Cal, I mainly chose Cal based off who I wanted to become one day, which I feel like I'm on the right track for. HOW MUCH PROGRAMMING HAVE YOU DONE (& WHAT LANGUAGES)? I started programming in my first semester at UC Berkeley. Despite intending to do a double major in mathematics and economics, I chose to study computer science instead of mathematics as my second major after being influenced by my freshman roommates (nearly all of whom were EECS or CS). My favorite language by far is C. I also am familiar with Python, Java, JavaScript, and Objective-C. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? I really enjoy doing triathlons and currently am on the triathlon team at Cal. Doing and training for triathlons really helps me stay focused, driven, and competitive with my goal-oriented teammates, while staying healthy and positive in achieving my goals. I also really enjoy playing Starcraft and Pokémon, but have lately tried to stay away from both, mainly due to productivity reasons. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR TALENTS & SKILLS? I can play the piano pretty well and I'm pretty talented at swimming (although definitely not good enough to compete for Cal's amazing swim team). HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING REMARKABLE? HAS ANYTHING MEMORABLE HAPPENED TO YOU? In high school I broke several high school records in swimming. One of which still has yet to be broken. Also, just recently I rode my bicycle around the entire bay area from Berkeley to Palo Alto to San Francisco around the San Pablo Bay back to Berkeley, all in time for dinner (nearly a 190 mile endeavor). I've also climbed three mountains in California with my bicycle (soon to be 4 once I climb Mt Palomar this year), despite always saying I'm never doing that sort of stuff again. WHAT COMMITMENTS WILL BE CONSUMING YOUR CYCLES THIS SEMESTER? In addition to this class, I'll be trying to construct a great website for the Cal Triathlon team's upcoming Bearathlon (collegiate triathlon competition). Simultaneously I will be spending much of my time preparing for future job interviews and reading up on operating systems. Despite not yet having taken CS162: Operating Systems and Systems Programming, I feel like the topics reside in a general area of computer science that I'm really interested in and would like to learn a lot more of. Other than that though, this class is my main focus, and I'm excited to give it everything I got plus more in regards to being a great TA.
