/============\ | Homework 0 | \============/ Name: Justin Hsia Login: cs61c-tb E-mail: jhsia@eecs.berkeley.edu Section: 19 Mini-Biography: ============== --> Where did you grow up? What was your academic path? (e.g. Did you live in the same town all your life or did you move around; and if so, where? Did you go to community college or another school before this one?) My family inched its way across the Bay Area. Milpitas -> San Jose -> Los Altos -> Palo Alto. I've been in the East Bay for almost a decade now (yikes). Graduated from Cal with B.S. in EECS and Mechanical Engineering. Took a year off to work at Lockheed Martin, then returned to the Ph.D. program in EECS. --> How much programming have you done (and what languages)? Started waaaaaaaaay back in jr. high. I got some basic programs on my trusty TI-83+ from another student and just started dabbling with that. Learned C++ in AP Comp Sci in high school. Scheme (cs61a), Java (cs9g,cs161,me135), C (cs61c,ee192,work experience), Python (cs188), MATLAB (e77,ee128,research), MIPS (cs61c), Verilog (cs150). But let's be honest here - I don't remember most of these, and the learning was not necessarily in depth. But having been exposed to them before, I can pick them up again relatively quickly, which I guess is the point. --> What are your hobbies? Badminton (somewhat on hiatus currently) Ultimate Frisbee Singing (a cappella) Running Board Games Hiking/camping/backpacking --> What are some of your talents and skills? I am decently dexterous with my left hand (can use chopsticks and throw a frisbee). I can solve a few variants of the Rubik's Cube (I am NOT a speedcuber). --> Have you done anything remarkable? Has anything really memorable happened to you? (e.g. travel, meeting famous people, 15 min of fame, inventions, overcoming adversity, etc.) So I have this story that involves kayaking, sea lions, a long night on a rock beach, a helicopter, and the coast guard... =P I ran a marathon last year. I have been to every national park in CA. --> What commitments will be consuming your cycles this term? (e.g. classes, jobs, family, commutes, volunteering, sports, student groups, etc.) Teaching cs61c (guest lectures) Research (synthetic biology) East Bay Winter League (ultimate) Vacuum (a cappella group)
