WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? WHAT WAS YOUR PATH TO CAL? I was born in China, but moved when I was 5. I went from San Luis Obispo, to Cerritos, to Cerritos, and then to Diamond Bar. During high school, I never even knew what school I wanted to go to, but when the final choice came, it was either Cal or Columbia, and everyone knows that Cal engineering is way better, so the choice was quite clear to me. I've been here ever since, and I don't plan to move for a while. HOW MUCH PROGRAMMING HAVE YOU DONE (& WHAT LANGUAGES)? I didn't even know programming existed until I got into Berkeley. When I was picking majors for my college apps, I crossed out all the majors I didn't want, and that left me with Math, CS and Econ. I thought to my self "Hey, I stare at a computer all day anyways, I might as well be doing something cool with it." Since then, I've picked up, Scheme, Java and C from the 61 series, Python from 188, SQL and a bit of Ruby from 186. I learned web development (HTML, Javascript, CSS and C#) during my summer internship at WaMu (it's not my fault). This semester, I don't have any official programming classes, but I am doing classes outside EECS, so I'll be picking up languages like Matlab, AMPL and some other languages for research in Econ. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? I was a lot of prime-time television shows even thought I don't have a TV (you know where to find it online). Recently I just picked up Big Bang Theory, a show that all engineers will be able to appreciate the most, but I also watch Scrubs and How I Met Your Mother. I also play random korean online games once in a while if I'm super bored. Besides slacking off in front of my computer, I do play badminton in the PE class. Otherwise, it's mostly going to student group events with TBP & HKN. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR TALENTS & SKILLS? I have an incredible talent for leaving/losing my water bottle everywhere. I am also double jointed in my elbow, so I can bend it at a 190 degree angle. My eating appetite also grows exponentially throughout the day. I (was) pretty decent at badminton, but I'm pretty out of practice at the moment. I used to play clarinet, but I have no musical knowledge about notes/chords/keys at all. I have also only lost 1 game (my first ever) in the original super smash bro for N64, so feel free to challenge me. I suck at melee and brawl though :( HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING REMARKABLE? HAS ANYTHING MEMORABLE HAPPENED TO YOU? I was able to meet Lin Dan, the Olympic badminton champion a couple of years ago. TAing for Dan Garcia is also pretty incredible :P. WHAT COMMITMENTS WILL BE CONSUMING YOUR CYCLES THIS SEMESTER? This semster, my only CS class is 170, which is algorithms. I'm also taking classes in Math, IEOR and Statistics to try and prepare for grad school. I'm also applying to jobs for the summer, and trying to study for the GRE at the same time. I'm a student officer in two student groups and I'm also doing research for an Economics professor on online pricing of goods.
