For the second assignment, take a few pictures with the emphasis on "focus". This assignment is due Wednesday 2/23/05, at 5:00pm. Post the files on your account and email me a pointer to the them. Make sure you tell me which ones you want to be shown and critiqued in the class.

Third assignment is on portraits. Take photos of people (or objects) with different zooms. One of your photos should be a close-up and the other one (possibly but not necessarily from the same object) from some distance. This assignment is due Wednesday 3/11/05, at 5:00pm. Aassignment five is to take two (related) photograph, one in natural light and the other using artificial (i.e., a flash, if you have one) light. Things to think about: using a flash that is disconnected from the camera, using multiple light sources, using a "fill-in" flash, bouncing the flash off a reflective surface,
covering the flash with ttransclucent "diffusing" material ....

Week 13 (April 22)

The class went to the Berkeley Art Museum where Lynn Kimura, a curator at the museum gave a chronological presentation of photographs from late 19th century to present time.

 

   

Week 14 (April 29)

*

Gale Jesi, an instructor of photography at San Francisco University High School gave a guest lecture on the alphabets of photography. She used the work of three photographers, Edward Westen, Joel Meyerowitz and Richard Misrach to illustrate how each artist adds a sentence to the conversation that goes on between the artists and the larger audience.
