Lab 1 - Introduction to Workview
This lab is not difficult once you get started and familiar with the Workview CAD software
and it's components. First, you should read the lab handout to learn the names of the programs
you will be using this semester. The handout describes most of the Workview programs, so you
should have an idea of what each program does before you come to lab. Then you should just
dive right into the lab, following the lab handout.
This lab is straightforward, so there aren't many or hints for the lab once you get started.
But, getting started can be kind of hard. Here a few clarifications and explanations:
- The first thing you will want to do before opening ViewDraw is create a new project. So, here's how:
1. Click on the file cabinet icon on the toolbar in the upper right corner of the screen.
2. Create a new project by selecting File, then New.
3. For the Project name, enter something like "Lab1" (no spaces allowed)
4. In the project directory field, put in a directory that you have created in your account specifically
for this lab. For example, U:\[account name]\lab1. It should be on the U: drive and in your account directory.
5. Click Next to get to the location of the project file dialog box. It should be the same
as the directory you entered in the last step. Click Next again.
6. The Configured libraries should be correct, so click Next again.
7. In this next section, you will need to configure the search order. If there are any directories
there already, remove them all by using the remove button. Then click on Import, and import
U:\WVLIB\VIEWDRAW.INI, which should add the following directories:
- U:\WVLIB\CS150
- U:\WVLIB\XC4000E (xc4000e)
- U:\WVLIB\XBUILTIN (xbuiltin)
- U:\WVLIB\XC4000 (xc4000)
8. Now click Finish, then OK, and a new project has now been created. Keep the ViewLogic Project
Manager open while you are working on the project.
- In section 6.1 of the lab handout, you open a netlist by choosing File ==> Load Design.
The handout refers to Load Viewsim Netlist, which is how the previous version of the software used to be.
- In section 6.4, ViewTrace should be VWaves.
- For section 9.3 where you have to find the delay, you will have to use VWaves to see the wave
form. You will then have to Zoom in to the .1ns level to be able to see the delays.
