| 2/2 | The Program for Women in Science and
Engineering is offering its annual *Summer Research Internship Program at Iowa State University.* This eight-week summer internship is open to students attending college who are interested in careers in science and engineering. The internships are open to students after completion of their freshman year of college and allows students to work on a variety of projects and gain hands-on research experience under the supervision of ISU faculty and staff. In addition, participants attend seminars, write research reports, summarize their research in poster presentations and receive a stipend of $3,500. Additional information is

year, Silicon Valley Engineering Council Engineering makes a number of cash awards to worthy applicants. The goals of the SVEC scholarship program are to identify and support deserving students whose studies are aligned toward engineering, engineering technology, or technology, and to help them achieve their educational goals. The SVEC Education awards recognize young engineering and technology students for their dedication, focus, and commitment to engineering. Engineering and Technology students graduating from high school, or presently enrolled in undergraduate community college and university programs are encouraged to apply. Students may receive an SVEC Scholarship award only once. The scholarship application form can be downloaded from the SVEC website: http://www.svec.org/ A short essay (about 150 to 250 words) describing your academic and professional goals. You are NOT required to be a member of any technical society. Please note that this year we are NOT requiring official transcripts - an unofficial printout will be fine. Applications must be postmarked before January 30, 2009. No applications will be accepted postmarked after this date. Scholarship winners will be announced and awarded at the Annual SVEC Engineers Week Banquet on February 19, 2009 |

| 10/30 | Open Source BootCamp will take place at
UC Berkeley on October 30th.
It should be an interesting afternoon of talks about open source in
general and how to get involved. It will also give the opportunity to
meet a lot of influential people of the open source community. The agenda of this event can be found here They will also be holding a after-party at Blake's at 7:30pm! They will be handing our stickers at the event that will be passes for free drinks and food at Blake's. |

Mills College that teaches middle-school girls about science! AWE will
provide rides to Mills College and will be hosting a workshop there; we
will be teaching the girls how to make soda-bottle capacitors! If you

Shadow-An-Engineer program. In this program,
students visit various companies in the bay area for a day, to learn
about the work of engineers in the field. Accenture Technology Labs
will be participating in this program and are inviting students over on
