Grades

Grades are now online and FINAL. Out of 20 e-mails about grades we have received ONE about a real mistake in our grading (and it was a very glaring mistake of 15% in the final course grade). Please be very sure that your numbers don't add up before contacting us. Grades were assigned using a standard 10% per letter grade breakdown.

12/20/2004

Midterm 3

This is the project solution submitted by LambdaBeef. They did an incredible job on this project and went above and beyond what we expected. Download it and play if you like... (but watch out for the suprise)

Congratulations to Po-kai Chen and Jack Chu, as well as everyone who has finished the project.

11/29/2004

Wrapping Up

Lab & Lab Lecture: There is a lab lecture this friday (on the report, don't miss it) and TAs will be present for labs this week. However this is the last week for both lab and lab lecture, and no more discussions will be held. See the schedule page.

Controllers: Please make sure to check your controllers back in, those groups who turn their controllers in will have 0.00 for their group number on the grade webpage. Failure to return your controller, or pay for it, will result in a withheld course grade.

Deffered Checkoff: Those groups who signed up for early checkoff, but were deffered by Greg should sign up for regular checkoff. We will use your files from the early deadline and give you your 10%.

Midterms & Lectures: The remaining lecture schedule, along with the midterm reviews and time and date for the Midterm III are now posted to the calendar page.

Homework: Please don't forget homework #10.

11/29/2004

Cheating

If you shared your code, accepted code from another group or in any way were involved in something dishonest, or even almost dishonest please talk to us immediately. Even if its a small matter, talking to us can ensure your peace of mind.

Please remember tuesday evening is the deadline for admitting to cheating on Checkpoint #3. If you do not take reponsibility for your actions by that time, you will accept responsibility the hard way.

11/29/2004

Final Checkoff

All EECS150 Fall2004 Project final checkoff files are due at 10:00 sharp on Monday 12/6. No exceptions, extensions or refunds.

Make sure your "U:\Project Submission Directory" folder is free of anything other than your submitted project verilog and blackboxes. No testbenches, projects or bitfiles will be accepted for any reason.

11/22/2004

Cheating

Students of EECS150 Fall 2004:
It is a sad fact that students out of frustration and pressure sometimes resort to less than honest means in search of a higher grade. On last Thursday evening there were a small number of groups who actively tried to cheat the checkoff system on Checkpoint #3 in order to attempt to raise their course grade by 1.5%, about one and a half homework assignments worth.
However, the transition from frustrated groups to groups with magically working projects did not go unnoticed by the TAs and by about 9pm that night, investigations had begun into exactly how many groups were involved. At this point we have clear evidence of cheating on the part of a number of groups.
Couse policy, as posted on the syllabus page since september, dictates that at the very least all groups involved receive a 0 (Zero) for their final project grade and that both partners will have a letter sent to the office of student conduct, effectively failing them from EECS150 and possibly ending their career at U.C. Berkeley.
In order to offer everyone a second chance before taking such drastic measures and to give us time to finish our investigation and generate conclusive proofs, we will delay action on this incident until Tuesday, November 30th at 6pm. In the meantime those groups interested in taking responsibility for their actions should e-mail or talk to Greg Gibeling (gdgib@berkeley) or Professor Culler by Tuesday, November 30th. Those who remain silent will likely receive the maximum penalty allowable under school policy, whereas we will talk with those of you who are willing to come in to discuss matters about the proper course of action to resolve this situation.
For those of you who put honest effort into your project and did not cheat, we appreciate your diligence and apologize on behalf of those who have tried to cheat you out of your hard earned grade. For those of you who decide to make good on the incident, we hope to find a way to offer you a second chance, but that depends on honest communication. The impact of a cheating letter far far outweighs any portion of the grade in this course.
            - Greg Gibeling
On behalf of the Course Administration

11/22/2004

Early Checkoff

Early checkoff files are due at 10:00 sharp on Monday 11/29, right after Thanksgiving break. For those of you leaving it until regular checkoff, enjoy your turkey.

11/16/2004

Final Design Review

You must complete and hand in a final project design review by Wednesday November 24th at 8pm. This deadline has been extended from Thursday November 18th, due to the fact that we failed to make this deadline clear.

11/15/2004

Checkpoint Solutions

Checkpoint solutions are meant for illustration purposes. You may only include them in your project with a severe point penalty. We recommend you use your own code as you will find it easier to cope with, since you know exactly how it works.

11/10/2004

Checkpoint #3

We have updated the Checkpoint3.v file in the zip download for checkpoint #3 to correct a few minor typos.

11/10/2004

Many of you asked for more design problems, and we have obliged. Homeworks #9 & #10 are now posted. We have given you from now until 11/19 to complete homework #9 and until 12/3 to complete homework #10. Be aware that it may be long and somewhat involved to finish. Feel free to come to office hours and ask questions, this homework is intended as practice for how to do design problems.

11/9/2004

Project Specification

With the posting of lab lectures #11 and #13 to the calendar page, you can now find all of the information you need to complete the EECS150 Fall2004 Final Project on this website.

For those of you planning to do the wireless multiplayer extra credit, please look at Lab Lecture #11. For those of you planning to do the full audio extra credit, please look at checkpoint #2 from Spring 2004 (last semester).

11/4/2004

Grades Online

The online gradebook was uploaded improperly. For all of you who got errors while trying to check grades, don't worry about it. We keep the grades elsewhere and just upload a copy to the website, which has now been fixed.

However, for those of you trying to get a better grade by hacking, feel free to change your grade on the webpage, we encourage that...

10/28/2004

Midterm II

The midterm is scheduled for 80min in class on Tuesday November 9th. We will try to keep the length down. You will not be allowed any notes.

The review session is scheduled for Monday November 8th from 5:30-8pm. The lecture on Thursday November 4th will be a review of the lectures as before.

Any material covered in lab or on homework will be fair game.

10/27/2004

Checkpoint #3

Checkpoint #3 will be released at 2:10pm on Friday 10/29 and NO SOONER. That means you have to WAIT, if the concept is scary or confusing we recommend that you do something crazy like your other homework or sleep. Complaints, as well as requests for an unfair advantage in the form of early material may be directed to /dev/null. Past SDRAM checkpoints are a reasonable starting point, but are mostly unrelated to what you will be doing this semester, hence the delay in finishing the checkpoint.

10/26/2004

Greg's Discussion

Update (10/26/2004): Greg's office hours Wednesday from 3-4pm will be considered the "makeup discussion." Don't stress about attending.

Design Basics Tutorial

There is a design basics tutorial on Monday evening 5-7pm in 125 Cory. If you got 60 or below on the midterm, spent 20+ hours on checkpoint 1 or are having troubles in the lab, BE THERE. This will be a review of basic material that you will need to know to pass this class.

10/21/2004

Midterm Regrades

All midterm regrade requests must be submitted in writing by 2:10pm on Friday 10/29. No exceptions whatsoever. You may submit them to the homework box.

10/18/2004

Midterm Results

10/14/2004

Project Deadline Update

After a long discussion about midterm and course survey results as well as course material, we have decided to remove checkpoint #4 and give you two weeks for checkpoint #2.

Please check the calendar for due dates.

10/14/2004

Homework

We have made a final decision on the late homework policy. Late homework will receive a score of 0. Make sure to turn your homework in by the deadline to avoid this. As a concession, we will record that we did receive your homework late, which will be used in determining final grades, should your grade land close to a letter boundary.

10/14/2004

Checkpoint Late Credit

You may turn in a lab or checkpoint through 8pm on Thursday the week after it is assigned for full credit, after that time the solution will be posted. However, for checkpoints, we will allow you one extra week during which a fully working checkpoint will receive 50% credit. That means that the final deadline to receive 100% for checkpoint #1 is 10/21, and you may receive 50% through 10/28.

10/14/2004

Midterm I

Grading is in progress, grades will be posted to the website ASAP. We will return midterms in discussion on the 18th and 19th, MAKE SURE TO ATTEND.

Checkpoint 1 Update

After sending a reset command, you must wait 128us before attempting to send a get button status command, otherwise your N64 module will not work.

You should not send a reset command at any time other than right after initialization, sending resets at other times may result in communications problems.

10/6/2004

Homework #2 Solution

There was a bug in problem #3. Please check it again if you looked at the solutions. Its about LUTs. LUTs are important.

10/4/2004

Lab #5 Music

Update (10/2/2004): The audio stream has been fixed, I apologize for the bug as it was in my code. The assignment will not be delayed.

The audio stream in the lab is apparently dead. We will work on fixing it as soon as possible. Updates will be posted. Do not ask us to delay the assignment, at the very least we will expect your code to work in simulation if we cannot fix the audio stream.

Homework #4

Update (9/28/2004): We've updated HW4 and the slides for lecture 7 so that all the questions should now make sense. Please check your answers, our apologies for the late changes.
